War in Iraq
I believe our military men and women should consider their efforts in Iraq as an overall success but it is time to create a timeline for them to come home. It is also time to salute and congratulate all of our military men and women for their hard work and sacrifices. Now we should refocus our efforts on the war on terror and Osama Bin Laden.
Health Care
All of the children in the United States should have health care regardless of economic status. A parent should never have a concern wondering how to pay for treatment or delaying until they can afford it. We will also need to take care of our senior citizens and then we will be well on our way to healing a lot of the problems our nation faces today.
Education
Education is of utmost importance to me. I believe all children should be provided an equal education. Our educational system needs to be competitive with some of the other countries in this world, especially in the areas of math and science. To do this, I believe our government will need to honestly make education a priority and provide the funding to give our children the tools they will need to be competitive and to help them enlarge their understanding of others and the world we live in.
Balanced Budget and Federal Deficit
It is easy for politicians to borrow from our future to fund projects that will help them get re-elected. This practice needs to stop and we need to balance our budget for a long period of time to give us a chance to pay back our $9 trillion dollar deficit. We now spend over $400 billion dollars on interest a year, which is over 6.5 times more than we spend on education. It is time to take responsibility so our children and children’s children will not have to face this burden.
Environment and Energy Independence
As a father of two I now care more about the future of this world than ever before and I see we are heading in the wrong direction. Prior generations have chosen to ignore this issue and some still do to this day. This ignorance has made global warming become more prevalent today than ever before. Our time to act and our time to come together on this issue is now because we cannot afford to wait for tomorrow.
We cannot go wrong if we care for our world. If we work on energy independence for every home and every automobile and if we continue recycle and plant trees then we cannot go wrong.
What if our children look back at 2007 and realize global warming was wrong?
What if all of the scientists were wrong?
What if everyone was wrong?
Then, their consolation prize will be an energy independent country that will not have to rely on foreign oil. Renewable energy would be widely used so our children will never experience the type of electric bill we are so used to today. Landfills will become more manageable and with new trees our wildlife will not diminish.
The only way to lose on this issue is to not do anything. And the only thing worse than not doing anything is to side with the oil companies. This would ensure that any changes that occur would have to be accepted by these companies and so you can imagine what our children’s world would look like thirty years from now.
